The "小红书" "小紅書" and/or "Xiaohongshu" website, mini program, user-end application, and other forms we provide from time to time (collectively, the "Xiaohongshu Platform") are legally owned and operated by Xingyin Information Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and its affiliates (collectively, "Xiaohongshu" or "we"), with the registered address at Rooms C201, C202, C203, C204, C205, C206 and C207, C/F, Fuxing SOHO Plaza, No. 368, Madang Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. The term "our" or "ours" shall be construed accordingly. For the avoidance of doubt, we reserve all rights to change the name of the Xiaohongshu Platform.
In this Policy, "Xiaohongshu" refers to a product that is distinct from its overseas-operated version, "rednote." This Policy applies to Xiaohongshu users, namely users who have registered accounts in Mainland China.
If you registered outside Mainland China, you will be considered a rednote user and will be subject to this Privacy Policy.
"User" or "you" refers to the user of the Xiaohongshu Platform. The term "your" shall be construed accordingly.
In this Privacy Policy, we describe our practices in collecting, using, and providing personal information to external parties, and elaborate on your rights in respect of your personal information in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and technical standards.
This Privacy Policy relates to your use of the Xiaohongshu Platform Services. When you download, install, launch, browse, register, log in or use our Xiaohongshu Platform Services, we will process and protect your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. The "Xiaohongshu Platform Services" shall have the same meaning given to it in the Xiaohongshu User Terms of Service. For instance, if you use the shopping service available on the Xiaohongshu Platform, this Privacy Policy applies to your use of the shopping service, supplemented by the Supplemental Personal Information Processing Consent for Xiaohongshu International E-Commerce Services.
If you are under the age of 18 or do not meet the age requirements for using the Xiaohongshu Platform in the place where you live, or if there are other legal requirements that are not compatible with user behavior, please follow the local legal requirements to (A) not use the Xiaohongshu Platform, or (B) read this Privacy Policy under the supervision and guidance of your legal guardian ("Guardian"), and only use the Xiaohongshu Platform after ensuring that your Guardian agrees to the content of this Privacy Policy as required by applicable laws.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully and in full before using or continuing to use our Xiaohongshu Platform Services and, if necessary, make appropriate choices in accordance with the guidelines in this Privacy Policy. If you do not provide certain personal information to us, we may not be able to provide Xiaohongshu Platform Services to you, or the use of Xiaohongshu Platform Services may be restricted, or the Xiaohongshu Platform Services may not function to achieve the results we intend to provide.
The Xiaohongshu Platform is a lifestyle platform for young people, with the mission to "inspire lives to share and discover the wonders of the world". Users can record moments of their lives and share their lifestyles through short videos, pictures, texts and other forms of content, and form interactions based on interests. In this Privacy Policy, we will explain the scope of personal information that each function of our products and/or services may collect, the purposes of collection, the methods of collection, and the possible consequences of not providing your personal information. Please be aware that you can still use other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform Services if you do not provide the corresponding information necessary for each function.
We will collect and use the personal information you provide voluntarily or that is generated during your use of our products and/or services, following the principles of legitimacy, legality, and necessity, for the purposes stated in this Privacy Policy. If we intend to use your personal information for purposes not specified in this Privacy Policy, or use the collected information for other purposes based on specific needs, we will inform you in a reasonable manner and obtain your consent again before using it. You can access the details through [Me - Settings - Personal Information List].
1.1 "Xiaohongshu Account" or "Account" means the account that Users may need to register when using the Xiaohongshu Platform. When you register and log in, we will collect your mobile phone number, password, or verification code for the purpose of registering and logging into your account. If you use the one-click login function, based on our cooperation with the telecom operators, we will collect your mobile phone number and network operator information to provide you with fast login services. Additionally, to help you complete the registration process, we will also collect your gender, interests, and age to provide you with initial Xiaohongshu Platform services. If you do not wish to provide such information, you can click [ ... ] - [Skip this step] at the top right of the collection page.
If your mobile phone number cannot be used for account login or verification due to reasons such as service suspension, deactivation, or reassignment, to confirm that the relevant operation is initiated by you personally and to ensure account security, we will provide your account-bound mobile phone number, the real-name information you fill in during verification, or other personal mobile phone numbers to the telecommunications operator and/or its authorized partners. The telecommunications operator will use communication-related data to assess the security of this operation.
When you use the account recovery or phone number replacement function, we will collect your full name, ID number, currently used mobile phone number, and previously used mobile phone numbers, and provide such information to the telecommunications operator to verify whether the mobile phone number bound to your account at registration is used by you personally. The operator will feedback the verification result to us.
1.2 If you log in with a third-party account, to meet the requirements of the network real-name system, we will additionally collect your mobile phone number to complete real-name verification before you can use functions and services that require real-name verification, such as posting and commenting. Please consider carefully before providing such information. If you refuse to provide it, you may not be able to use the corresponding functions normally.
1.3 You can also choose to fill in or change your avatar, name, gender, birthday, occupation, region, school, profile, and outfit information according to your needs to complete your information. However, if you do not provide this information, it will not affect your use of this product and the related services.
1.4 If you successfully register a Xiaohongshu Account, we will display your name, avatar, region, and profile information on the Xiaohongshu Platform.
2.1 Information Browsing, Posting, Liking, Collecting, and Sharing Functions
2.1.1 To provide you with our core information display services and recommend notes and related information that may interest you, we will collect the personal information you fill in, your gender, birthday, browsing records (your follows, browsing), and click operation records (interests, clicks, searches, likes, collections, shares, comments, posting records, and related behaviors). If you wish to disable our recommendations based on this information, you can refer to the instructions in Section I Article 2.17 of this Privacy Policy.
When you play videos or other content, in order to adapt to the status of your device, we will access your device's accelerometer, gyroscope sensors and rotation vector sensor to identify whether your device is in portrait or landscape orientation.
2.1.2 When you use the posting and editing content functions, we will request your authorization for storage (photo albums, media, and other files), camera, and microphone (recording) permissions. If you refuse to authorize these permissions, you will not be able to use the corresponding functions, but it will not affect your normal use of other Xiaohongshu Platform functions.
When you click "➕" in app front page, if you have authorized our access to photo album in your device, we will preload the photo album information while all the preload information will only be cached in your device temporarily and will not be uploaded to our server.
To improve video upload speed, enrich posting functions, and optimize the experience, we will temporarily load the video you edited to the server before you click "publish notes". If you exit the editing page or do not post the note for other reasons, we will immediately delete the related video. You can disable this function through [Me] – [Settings] – [General Settings] – [Not allow Pre-upload videos before publishing].
When you post notes, live streams, and other interactive content, we will use your authorized geographic location information to determine your location when you post content and subsequently use this information to recommend your content to other users.
With your consent, we will display your live stream link and other live stream information on the map interface of the nearby feature based on your location information when you start the live stream, making it easier for users in the same geographic area to discover and access your live stream. Please note that to protect your privacy, if the map accuracy level is too high, we will not display your live stream information on the map. You can withdraw your consent by going to the pre-live stream page settings — Geographic Location - Hide My Location.
2.1.3 When you use the post, comment, like, collect, or share functions, the text, photo, video, audio, comment, like, collect, or share records you post will be stored on our servers, because storage is necessary for this function. We will store this information in an encrypted manner, and you can delete this information at any time.
2.1.4 If you use location stickers when shooting or editing content, with your authorization, we will use your location information to generate stickers. These stickers will be publicly displayed in the content. If you refuse to authorize location information, you will not be able to use this function, but it will not affect your use of other functions. We will also use your authorized location information to recommend location links on the content publishing page. Additionally, we will use the location information embedded in the media information of the image/video when recommending location anchors. You can control the access to this information through the Section IV Article 3 of this Privacy Policy.
2.1.5 When you use sports-related functions (such as running, cycling, sharing sports stickers, and other sports features), we will record your sports data. With your separate consent, we may also collect activity data from your device (including steps, calories, distance, altitude, sport intensity, active hours, daily activity data, and activity goals), as well as workout/exercise data (including sports types, detailed exercise records, and detailed exercise location data), to enable you to track your exercise. If you wish to create sports stickers, we may use the above data to create sports stickers for you.
If you do not consent to our collection of sports, activity, and workout data, you may be unable to record your exercise or create sports stickers, but it will not affect your use of other features.
2.1.6 When you enable and use the "Limited Memories" function, we will automatically analyze and filter the pictures and videos in your device's album based on the shooting information (time, scene, and location) to generate videos for you. For optimal editing effects, we need to collect shooting information for analysis before generating each video. We promise not to store any information. After you enable the "Limited Memories" function, we will only analyze and filter within the album range you authorized. You can enable or disable this feature through the path indicated in the Section IV Article 3 of this Privacy Policy.
2.1.7 When you or other users use the 'Translation' feature, we will provide the content that needs to be translated to the translation service provider. We will only share the content that needs translation and will not disclose usernames or any other personally identifiable information.
2.2 Friend Recommendation or Discovery Function. When you use the function of recommending address book friends or discovering friends on your own initiative, with your express consent, we will encrypt and upload your address book information to our servers to recommend friends and content of people you may know. Your friends will also be able to see your use of the Xiaohongshu Platform Services. If you do not want to be recommended, you can choose to turn off in [Me] - click on the upper left corner - [Settings] - [Privacy Settings] - [Hide Me from People I May Know]. Address book information is considered sensitive personal information, and refusing to provide this information will only prevent you from using the aforementioned function but will not affect your normal use of other Xiaohongshu Platform functions.
2.3 Secure Operation and Risk Control Verification. To ensure the safe operation of the software and services, prevent your personal information from being illegally obtained, more accurately prevent fraud, and protect the security of Accounts, we will proactively collect your device information [Including: device/hardware model, device name, SIM card serial number (e.g., ICCID), device/hardware serial number (SN), device unique identifier (Including: IMEI, IMSI, Android ID, IDFA, IDFV, OAID (Harmony OS), OAID (Android), MEID)], running processes, app's overall running situation and frequency, system crash, installation and visiting, performance data, data source, storage (photo albums, media and other files), browser type and setting, language setting, sensor, operating system, operating system version number and application version, installed apps, network device hardware address (MAC Address), WLAN-MAC, WLAN connecting points (e.g., SSID, BSSID), IP Address, Bluetooth address, way of accessing network, network quality data, station, mobile network information (including operator names), device sensor data (such as accelerometer, linear accelerometer, gravity sensor, gyroscope), software version number, and software usage record information, and upload them to the servers for processing and security risk control verification. If you do not agree to our collection of the above information, the risk control verification might not be able to be completed. Please understand that, in order to dynamically detect if there is any abnormal login in your Account, every time you switch the Xiaohongshu Platform to background or restart the application, we may read this information again. We will control the reading frequency within a reasonable range. In order to maintain network security and ensure a properly functioning ecosystem, the region information corresponding to your IP address will be displayed on your profile page, note publishing page and comments. The domestic region information will be displayed to the province (region, city), and the overseas region information will be displayed to the country (region). The specific information is subject to the data of the network operator.
2.4 Search Function. When you use the Xiaohongshu Platform search function, we will collect your search keywords (which may be in text or image form), browsing records, access time, comments and interaction records. Collecting such information allows us to provide you with the content you need and services you may be more interested in, and in the meantime, improve our products and services.
2.5 Location-Based Services. When you enable the device location function through system authorization and use location-based related services on the Xiaohongshu Platform (including location-based content recommendations, nearby function, and the display of local life information and interactive content on the nearby function map interface, location positioning when publishing content, editing delivery information for shopping, and profile editing), we will collect and use your location information to provide you with these services. You can stop our collection of your location information by turning off location services in your mobile device's system, which will not affect your normal use of other Xiaohongshu Platform functions. We will only display content or services that may be relevant to you based on network information (such as IP) or the corresponding city and/or district and/or street of the authorized location information.
2.6 Interactive Features and Services
2.6.1 When you follow the Accounts that you are interested in, browse, comment, like, collect or share content, we will collect the Accounts that you follow and the aforesaid information and show you the content published by the Accounts that you follow. Additionally, the content that you like or collect will be shown to your fans. You can set the collected content to be visible only to yourself in [Me] - [Collects] - [Collects Boards].
2.6.2 If you need to edit your delivery information when you purchase goods or services, we may request permission to access your address book. Address book permission is a sensitive permission. If you refuse to provide permission, you will only be unable to edit your delivery information through your address book, but it will not affect the use of other Xiaohongshu Platform functions.
2.6.3 When you choose to add friends by scanning QR codes, we may request permission to access your camera (webcam). Camera (webcam) permission is a sensitive permission. If you refuse to provide permission, you will only be unable to add friends by scanning QR codes, it will not affect the use of other Xiaohongshu Platform functions. During the scanning process, we will invoke the light sensor and collect light sensor information to detect the ambient light intensity, which is used to determine whether to turn on the fill light or optimize the recognition algorithm, thereby improving your recognition experience in low-light environments.
2.6.4 When you use the group chat function for interactive communications, we will collect information related to the group and group members and form a group list.
2.6.5 Live Stream Room Interaction
If you are a live stream host, your nickname and avatar will be displayed in the live stream room. Additionally, comments, gifts, likes, the number of online viewers, and the duration of the live stream and other statistical data will also be publicly displayed.
If you are a viewer watching the live stream, your nickname, avatar, and other public Account information, as well as interaction information in the live stream room (including but not limited to comments, gifts, and online status in the live stream room), will be publicly displayed. We will also form and publicly display statistical data (such as leaderboards and popularity) based on your interaction activity.
To provide you with quality interactive services, your nickname, avatar, and other public Account information, as well as interaction information with the live stream host (such as follow information, comments, likes, and gifts), may be synchronized for the live stream host to view.
2.6.6 If you are a professional account user, you may choose to enable the Direct Message Pro function: When using the contact card feature, you may voluntarily provide your mobile phone number, WeChat ID, DingTalk ID, or WeCom ID to us for generating your contact card, and independently choose to send it to specific users via direct message; when using the quick menu feature, you may independently set or reserve one or more of your mobile phone number, WeChat ID, DingTalk ID, or WeCom ID, so that other users who initiate a direct message conversation with you can conveniently view and use this contact information.
2.6.7 When you participate in "shake it", or other interactive functions or activities that are relied on your movement, we may activate sensors on your device to identify such movement in order to facilitate your participation or to display following interaction pages (according to different activities, these sensors may include accelerometer, gyro sensor, gravity sensor, linear accelerometer, step counter sensor and gait detection sensor).
2.7 Obtaining, Checking, and Using Virtual Assets. To allow you to check your virtual assets and minimize possible risks, [Wallet] will record your charge, balance and usage information.
2.8 Real-Name Authentication
2.8.1 When you apply for becoming an authenticated user by using the identity authentication function, we will collect your identity information, including your real name, ID number or photo(s) and facial recognition information to verify your identity. If you refuse to provide such information, this will not affect the normal use of other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform.
2.8.2 When you apply for Account Retrieval, we may collect your identity information, including your real name, ID number or photo(s) and facial recognition information to verify your identity and retrieve your Account. If you refuse to provide such information, this will not affect the normal use of other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform.
2.8.3 When you apply to enable Live Stream function, as required by laws and regulations, we may collect your identity information, including your real name, ID number or photo(s) and facial recognition information to verify your identity. If you refuse to provide such information, this will not affect the normal use of other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform. We also need to conduct identity verification for the live marketing personnel in your live stream room. When you add new personnel for registration, we will collect information such as the name, personnel type, identification type and identification number of the registered personnel. Prior to providing the above information, you shall obtain the authorization and consent of the relevant registered personnel.
2.8.4 When you apply for the Product Cooperation function, as required by laws and regulations, we may collect your identity information, including your real name, ID number or photo(s) and facial recognition information to verify your identity. In order to help you successfully complete the product cooperation, we may collect your mobile phone number or WeChat number. If you refuse to provide such information, this will not affect the normal use of other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform.
2.8.5 When you apply for the Brand Cooperation function, for the purpose of verifying your identity and determining whether you meet the access conditions to use Brand Cooperation function, we may collect your real name, ID number or photo(s), Xiaohongshu Account information, occupation, academic information and income details information. If you refuse to provide such information, this will not affect the normal use of other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform.
2.8.6 To ensure the safety of your Account, when we find that your activities may have safety risks, we may verify your identity via Name, ID card number or photo, facial recognition information, or Face ID, fingerprint ID, SMS verification. Before using face ID or fingerprint ID, you need to input your face or fingerprint information to your device. When the verification has been triggered, you will need to complete it directly on your device. We only receive the result of such verification, we will not collect any of your face or fingerprint information. If you do not wish to use face ID or fingerprint ID to verify, you may choose other methods of verification.
2.9 Product Purchase Function. You can order products/services through the Xiaohongshu E-commerce Platform or the Personal Sale Service. To help you complete transactions smoothly, ensure transaction security, query order information, and provide logistics services, we will collect your transaction product/service information, order number, order time, transaction amount, payment method, recipient's name, address, contact number, and logistics information when you place an order or to complete the transaction. For certain special types of products and services, you may also need to provide additional information necessary for the product or service, such as your real name, ID number, and photos of both sides of your ID card for customs clearance in the case of cross-border transactions.
2.10 Customer Services and After-Sales Service Function. When you contact our customer service staff or make an after-sales application relating to our products and/or services, including for refund or return purposes, we may collect the communication records between you and the customer service staff. For the security of your Account and system, we may need you to provide relevant personal information that matches the personal information you previously provided to verify your user identity. After successful verification, we may collect your communication information with us (Account information, order information, picture/video/text information, and related information you provide to prove relevant facts), your contact information and your communication records with us, including online communication records and telephone recordings, to try to solve your problems as soon as reasonably possible and improve our products and/or services. At the same time, we may take the initiative to contact you by phone, text message, in-site letter, and other related methods to communicate your problems arising from using our products and services.
For quality assurance purposes, and to help deal with any service disputes, the call between you and the customer service staff may be recorded. The rules for the collection and use of the above information are as follows:
2.10.1 If you have a dispute with Xiaohongshu or merchant when you use the Xiaohongshu Platform Services, we can retrieve and use the call recording as a reference for resolving disputes.
2.10.2 In order to provide you with customer service and after-sales service, we may store your call recordings in the third-party customer service system, and we will ensure that third parties cannot access your call recordings through contractual constraints. The Xiaohongshu Platform will not provide the call recording to anyone (including the caller or the called party), except under the following circumstances: a. where the call recording is obtained by competent authority in accordance with legal procedures; or b. where the party whose call is recorded obtain the recording in accordance with the legal documents issued by judicial authority.
2.10.3 When you report violations to the platform (including cyber violence and infringements), we will collect the information you provide including incident descriptions, evidence screenshots, your name, identity document photos and contact information for the purpose of handling your complaints and reports.
2.11 Payment Function. You can purchase goods/services and Xiaohongshu membership services on the Xiaohongshu Platform. During the process of using these functions, you may need to pay. During the payment process, we will collect your third-party payment accounts (Alipay account, WeChat account, UnionPay account and related accounts).
2.12 Information Pre-Fill Function. When you fill out forms or order information on the Xiaohongshu Platform, to save you time, we will automatically fill in the form information based on the name, gender (if any), phone number, and region (if any) you provided to the Xiaohongshu Platform during registration or purchasing.
2.13 Skin Test and Makeup Trial Function. When you use the Skin Test or Makeup Trial function provided by the Xiaohongshu Platform, we need to collect your storage (albums, media and other files), camera (webcam) permission or face recognition information after obtaining your individual consent through the pop-up window in order to provide the service to you. However, we will not store your facial recognition information after providing the Skin Test and Makeup Trial functions. If you refuse to provide the aforementioned facial recognition information, you will not be able to experience the Skin Test function and Makeup Trial function. However, this will not affect the normal use of other functions of the Xiaohongshu Platform.
Please be aware that the above facial recognition information directly relates to your personal and property safety, so you should consider carefully before providing such information to us. We will only collect and process the above facial recognition information for the purpose of providing the Skin Test function and Makeup Trial function, and the processing of personal information will only affect the result of the Skin Test function and Makeup Trial function.
2.14 Generative Artificial Intelligence Services
When you use generative artificial intelligence services (including AskNow, Dots, AI Pet, AI Photo Retouching and other AI services), we may collect the following information to provide you with conversation and interactive services: information you actively input (including text, images, voice, and other information you enter), content instructions, behavioral information when you use the model (including records of your clicks, browsing, editing, and other operations), and feedback information you provide (including likes, dislikes, and submitted feedback). We will analyze and calculate the above information to better understand your questions and contextual context, thereby providing you with more relevant information content.
On the premise that the information has been processed through secure encryption technology, strictly de-identified, and no specific individual can be re-identified, we may use the above-collected data and the corresponding responses generated by the model for model training to continuously adjust and optimize the model's performance. If you do not want the aforementioned data to be used for model training and optimization, you can contact us through the contact information published in this Privacy Policy and request to withdraw the use of your aforementioned data for model training and optimization.
When we identify that the questions you input may be related to your location, we will collect your geographic location information with your authorization to provide you with accurate and relevant content and information. If you do not agree to our collection of location information, we may not be able to provide you with location-related information content, but this will not affect your use of other functions.
2.15 Widget and Interactions Functions Supported by Device's Operating System
When you add card/widget/desktop widget (together referred to as "desktop widget") that is operated by Xiaohongshu Platform, or use interacting functions that are supported by your device's operating system, in order to ensure that you can normally receive information from the Xiaohongshu Platform via such desktop components or device system features, we need to utilize auto-start capabilities. Within the scope necessary for implementing the related functions and services, we may send broadcasts via the device system to wake up the Xiaohongshu Platform, thereby triggering auto-start behavior.
2.16 To ensure that when you use the Xiaohongshu Platform Services, you can communicate with the background servers instantly and receive personalized content pushed in a timely manner, we will i) obtain and use your power-on broadcast permission from you to launch the Xiaohongshu Platform, ii) use a third-party message push service to generate an identification ID for you to distinguish the uniqueness of your device, and iii) read the status of your mobile phone to determine whether the Xiaohongshu Platform is in the foreground or background.
2.17 To show you personalized content or ensure you receive more appropriate content, we may collect records of your searches/plays/displays of recommended content on the Xiaohongshu Platform, audio and video playback records, your devices' sensors information (including accelerometer and gyroscope sensors) when you browse notes, and use the personal profile information you provide (such as gender, age, birthday). If you are not interested in the pushed content or want to reduce certain types of pushed content, you can long-press on the content and click "Not Interested". You may choose to turn off the pushed personalized content by going to [Me] - click on the upper left corner – [Settings] – [Privacy Settings] – [Personalization Options].
2.18 To provide you with the product information display, search and push services more conveniently tailored to your personalized needs, based on your device information (including the device information, application list information, and operator information as mentioned in Article 2.3) as well as your browsing and usage data and purchase history when you use the Xiaohongshu Platform, we generate indirect population profiles based on characteristic tags to display and push information and possible commercial advertisements to you. (Please understand the device information alone cannot identify a particular natural person. If we combine such non-personal information with other information to identify a specific person, or use it in combination with personal information, such non-personal information will be considered personal information during the combined use; unless authorized by you or unless otherwise provided by laws and regulations, we will anonymize such personal information). Please be aware that, during our operations, we may send you one or more notifications through the contact information (phone, email, and other contact methods) you provide while using our products or services, such as message notifications, identity verification, security verification, and user experience surveys. We may also provide you with services, features, activities, and related commercial information that you may be interested in via SMS or phone. If you do not wish to receive commercial advertisements from us, you can unsubscribe or disable them through the SMS prompt or other provided methods, or contact us directly to unsubscribe.
2.19 If you share or receive shared information or participate in activities, we need to access your clipboard to obtain the token, sharing code or link contained therein, so that you may be redirected to, share, or participate in the activity-linked functions or services.
2.20 Summary of Device Permission Invocation
The following is a summary of the main permissions that we will ask for when providing Xiaohongshu Platform Services. You can choose to turn off some or all permissions in the settings of the device. The display and methods of turning off permissions might differ on different devices. For details, please refer to the device and system developer's instructions or guidelines:
